To prepare all students for tomorrow's challenges and opportunities

Welcome to PMWJH 7th & 8th Grade Chorus!

Hello and welcome back to school! I hope you had a terrific summer and are ready to sing, dance, act and PERFORM! The purpose of this letter is to inform you of all chorus expectations. I am excited to start the new year, sing new music and meet new students!

The purpose of chorus class is to teach you to perform using your best abilities. The course is designed to build your musicality, inspire you to perform with expression and sing with proper vocal techniques. It’s always amazing to watch the students’ final performances in vibrant harmonies and note their growth throughout the year!

There are six sections of chorus this year, so be sure to look at your schedule thoroughly. Some of you will attend class every day while others might split chorus between other related arts such as band and physical education.

There are typically no homework assignments for chorus. There are two mandatory concerts during the school year. One will be right before winter break and the other will be in late spring. Concert attendance will be 30% of your chorus grade (see chart below). Both concerts will be held at the West High School auditorium. There will be opportunities for solos, choreography, dancers, small groups, song announcers and more! I will notify you when auditions and sign-ups are so that you will have plenty of time to prepare!

Last year, the chorus competed in the High Note Festival in Allentown, PA and won a superior rating! Hopefully, the weather will cooperate with us this year and we can attend Dorney Park after our adjudication! The music department also went to NYC and participated in a Broadway Theatre workshop. It was a spectacular day! After the workshop, we ate dinner at Jekyll & Hyde’s and viewed the Broadway production, “Cinderella.” To help lower the cost of these field trips, we will hold two fundraisers throughout the school year! More details to come…

Finally, PMWJHS will present a school musical! This is a separate after-school activity that I know many of you are excited to join! There is an activity bus that will take you home when play practice ends! I am waiting to hear about performance rights and we will either be performing “Shrek the Musical” or “Hairspray.” Auditions will be after winter break! I hope to see you there!

I look forward to working with you in chorus this year!!

Musically,

Ms. Aragona-Young
